Train-the-Trainer course provides instruction, coaching and feedback to prepare those who will deliver training.
Passenger Assistance Techniques is required by many transportation funding sources, including ODOT and insurance providers. This three-day course includes lecture, discussion, video clips, handouts, a hands-on practicum, and a certificate of completion is designed to give the transit professional the information and knowledge to train drivers. Training includes both web-delivered instruction and “hands-on” practice to address ADA regulations and requirements, passenger sensitivity, lift operation, and wheelchair securement. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an instructor packet.
Session I – Train-the-Trainer – Covers adult learning principles and tips for success as an effective trainer. The attendee will receive helpful tips to calm nerves before speaking.
Session II – ADA and Disability Awareness – Overview of transportation-related regulations and requirements. Skills for assisting passengers with disabilities.
Session III – Lift Operations and Securement – Presentation of best practices and manufacturer’s recommendations for accessible lift operation and mobility device securement.
Session IV – Hands-On Practicum – One-on-one demonstration of lift and securement techniques by trainer. Check-off of skills by attendees.

The practicum will occur on October 28. You must attend all 3 webinar sessions and pass the test in order to attend the practicum. Additional information regarding the practicum procedure will be sent via a follow-up email.
